VISITING TEAMS PLEASE NOTE

Under Bye-law 25 – 1 (p54) (BCBGA) Players must wear

acceptable footwear as follows:

Hard or block heeled footwear must not be worn whilst

on the green.

Flat soled shoes or trainers are the only permitted

footwear to be worn in any match played under the

Associations jurisdiction.

No spikes, studs, sandals or flip flops are permitted.

Reasoning behind this litigation is to safeguard our BCGBA

members and clubs.

The sole of the footwear protects the playing surface from

damage. The tops of the footwear are to protect the

players from injury, should a bowl or jack accidently strike

the toes and feet whilst playing.

The correct footwear helps prevent, slips trips and falls on

or around the green.

The above BCGBA rule must be adhered to, and any

player or visitor will not be allowed to play or walk on the

green at Swindon CGBC unless the accepted footwear is

worn.

For experienced bowlers we offer social bowling, and competition bowling in internal as well as external leagues. For new members and inexperienced bowlers we can provide coaching. There is an attractive social scene at Swindon, where members enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. In our clubhouse, which we share with Swindon Cricket Club, we provide a well stocked bar with very reasonable prices. Ample parking on site. Come and have a look and introduce yourself whenever there is a bowls match on, or just social bowling - Thursday morning is a good time to pay us a social call. Open to all.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL LEAGUE MATCHES, ALL

INTERNAL MATCHES, AND ALL SOCIAL FUNCTIONS,

ARE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, DUE TO

THE CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC.

It is with deep regret that one of our long-standing members, George Cox, passed away 14 March 2020. The funeral was held at Gornal Wood Crematorium on 8 April. We offer our condolences to his family and friends. George was a founding member of Swindon Crown Green Bowling Club, and our first green-keeper. He made many of us who were novices at crown green bowling competitive with his excellent coaching and encouragement. He will be sadly missed.
